Ring around Iris? |
Lead | ||||
|
This is a new to me, BUT I was made aware through a friends friend, the quickest way a human can tell if someone is a vampyre is by looking at their eyes. For
whatever reason it is believed that 95% of the time real vampyres have a dark if not black ring around the iris of their eye, regardless of eye color. Humans
can have this to, but 95% of the time, its only vamps. Now Has anyone come across this? This is a pretty wild claim to make.

Yup, I have three rings of color in my eyes, a very dark blue ring around the iris, a lighter blue ring (my iris), and a ring around my pupil that changes
color depending on how dialated my eyes are, from a VERY pale almost white ring all the way to gold. Now, the statistics could be over-exaggerated, after all
it is highly doubtful (to me atleast) that every vampire in the world has been accounted for, but when it comes to common physical traits in a
population then you can expect the occurrence to be high.

interesting, I also have a a slightly diff color around my pupil, and a blackish/indigo colored ring going around my iris.

It's simple genetics. Some people have a gene that leaves a ring around light colored eyes, others don't. If it happens to be on a chromasome that
carries a gene for vampirism, there would tend to be a connection, though it wouldn't be 100%. I'd expect that the statistic was made up, and even if
95% of vampires had them, it doesn't mean that 95% of the people who have them (or even a majority) would be vampires.

That's what I figured, genetics. An interesting study to do would be to look at all real vampyre eyes and see if any similarities come into play or even a
very common dominant trait.

Not likely... =/ | |||||

I read this post a while ago and gave it some time, so I could look around. The thing is saw this on me (who I consider a vampyre for now), but also on other
people who have very little chances of being so. It seems to be a rather common characteristic around me, so I wouldn't really agree. Unless I have the
wrong impression of what do you mean by dark ring. In my eyes it is a millimetre thick black outline which tends towards something blue-violet and yet too dark
to see colour at first glance. I thought my eyes were ill or something when I had first noticed it back in my 13's...glad it's not like that though.
But yes, statistics will have to be made at some point, we need to know more about ourselves.
Even in a world of steel and concrete, there are those who thirst for blood.

None of the vampyres I know have these rings.
But people can tell by looking into our eyes, because of the goosebumbs and uncomfortable feelings they get when they do. Stats aren't important, We can mask ourselves, when its necesary, to appear mortal. Heck, We can even die. |

Die to appear mortal?... xD
At any rate, I doubt anyone gets goosebumps from looking into my eyes, seriously. Even in a world of steel and concrete, there are those who thirst for blood.

We should surely test this, who knows you give it too.

Everything about being a vampyre is a person to person thing. We are as individual as every human. I myself have a ring but I do not know for sure, nor have
any way to prove, that it is part of what I am but it is good that you mentioned it, it does seem an interesting idea.

Another thing about statistics within groups, is this is one time you want to be sure you're comparing apples to oranges. At least among
"normals" I know, as well as Otherkin in general (I consider myself Otherkin, not all vampires do), the ring around the iris isn't all that rare.
So even if it is common among vampires, it may not be any more common than in the general public. Now, if there was a trait that only 3-5% of the normals had
was found in 50% or more of vamps, then I might say that it could be said to be a "vampire" trait. But assuming that vamps make up about 5% of the
population, there would still be a lot of false positives.
These are things that have to be considered when working with human populations and statistics. |

I don't know if having a ring around your iris has anything to do with being a Vampyre. I know a lot of common people who have it but definitely are not
Vampyres or anything similar. I also know Vampyres who don't have any ring around their iris

Again, it's not a matter of how many vampyres have it, it's how many more have it than the general populous. According to what I've read, it's
just a matter of having an area at the edges of the iris that has no pigment, so it becomes almost a sink hole for light. So it's going to be darker than
the iris, no matter what color the iris is. Also, as someone who grew up with color theory and graphic design, I can say that one color can look very different
depending on the colors nearby. I'm not saying that vampires don't share any physical traits. Nor am I saying there aren't any that are almost
uniquely vampyric. Only that they must be very subtle or it would be much easier for anyone who knows of us to tell us from humans by sight.
