In all my years almost a decade now I have studied and am well educated in my vampyre nature and history, I could be a professor for christ sake lol. Now this site is one of the best on the internet, no doubt about it. I have a little more faith over the authenticity of this page and its long standing. But, it has recently come to my attention of a new website that has surfaced on the internet, believe I know all the websites, good & bad haha. This website is veery very interesting and completely packed with information that can be cross referenced if one chooses. Here's the deal, this site is making a lot of call's saying that like 90% of the vampire community and its information is false. Again, they have a lot of supporting evidence behind what they are saying. Even just looking in the vampyre trait section, there are traits that I have never seen before, but are not un-reasonable things to look for. Anyways, I strongly encourage all the vampyres on here, especially the mods and admins to take a close and examined look at this website and then leave a well thought out comment. This website is just boggling to me, because its not lifestyles, rpg, enablers, or anything even close but I've never seen this type of information on any other site that actually made sense. We are Vampyres, this is a community, and I want to know whats going on here between my brothers and sisters.

Although I like that their list is pretty comprehensive, and they remind people that there can be false positives, they have some of the science wrong if they are going by the retrovirus theory that they claim. Yes retroviruses change DNA, but most of these changes are either non-important, or they are deadly. Most changes to DNA cause cancer, for example. The other thing is that if it was dormant until puberty and affected the child non-lethally at this period, the genes that were changed would probably be passed onto any future offspring, meaning that infection would not be the only way one would become a vampire. I say this because HIV, which this site claims the "V5" virus is related to, has a 50% or so chance of being passed through blood from mother to child during birth, even without antivirals. So, by that model, 50% of children with a vampire mother would get the virus at birth, and 50% wouldn't. But there would also be the chance that they'd inherit vampirism genetically from either or both parents, which would explain why children of "Awakened" vampires are often Awakened themselves. The theory that they present doesn't even acknowledge being born Awakened as even possible. So although a theory involving retroviruses answers some previously unanswered questions, theirs makes mistakes on things that are already known.

Maringa, the retrovirus theory is a possibility, though I am not saying for certain that it is probable. The things that could account for the genes not being passed on to the offspring of an infected individual is that it could be, in essence, the opposite (in specialization, anyway) of that of say...the flu virus, and that the mothers placenta could be hostile to the virus particle. It could affect all cells of the body except those of the reproductive track. I say opposite of the the flu because the flu only attacks respiratory cells.

Hopefully those who read this could follow it.

Yes, that is true, and that could suggest that the virus, if there is one, has mutated from a form that, in the past, was able to infect reproductive cells, which led to people being born as Vampyres. This could in turn mean that the viral variation is either weaker or stronger than that of the genetic variation, and that possessing the virus later would simply serve to augment and/or activate the genes that one might already possess.

Of course, this is all just speculation.

Vampyrism is not a virus, period. Damn, and I almost thought we got past these bullshit crap. Some people are apparently still spreading around fiction. Its not hard to make conspiracy theories or twist them into "real facts". Seriously, people should do some research first. Montag, I was not claiming that the virus exists, just simply trying to explain what could be happening if it did exist. I personally don't believe that it does, but I can't resist trying to figure out why even a fictional thing exists or occurs. It's what keeps me sane, for the most part.

I agree as well that this virus just doesn't make sense, I've know of its background for many years, as well as the fact that it started on ultraviolet, the british tv show. They actually made a movie based on the tv show too. Just on the basis of this alone would lead me to believe that this website is full of it, but again, there are still many other aspects of the site I would like to explore. So please, everyone continue to observe this "new site" and leave your well thought out responses. It is greatly appreciated as well as greatly needed in our community.

So please, everyone continue to observe this "new site" and leave your well thought out responses. It is greatly appreciated as well as greatly needed in our community.

You know, this is actually something I don't do and never will (well, except for the "observe" part, sometimes I just like to have a good laugh, lol). I would never leave comments on vampire related sites on a public message board. Internet is not as extensive as some might think and such comments very often lead to flame wars and other immature crap that I always try to avoid. Moreover, would it be of use to you or any other person to know I think that site X is full of shit, site Y is decent and site Z really awesome? Of course not! You have read Reapers, so you know where I stand. You have read the other site, you must be able to compare. I want people to think and decide fro themselves, I don't want/need people following my thought process saying "damn you got a point that site sucks ass" or "you are stupid and don't know a shit, because that site has actually got it right"... I don't want followers and don't want to make people biased, for example by pointing out the crap many other sites are offering or explicitly stating my opinion on any other site. People doing this are, in fact, just narrow-minded, need followers and keep trying make others think in the same way, which they usually try to mask such as "Just felt like warning others..." etc

Exactly, I agree 100% with your response montage. For better definition I'm seeking general personal thoughs from everyone on this site to further my understanding as well as others. Someday I hope for a stronger vampyre nation and better understanding of our roots and who we are. The truth is out there somewhere, its just harder for our kind to find.

The DNA explanation on this site is written by someone who has a less than basic understanding of genetics. They use incorrect terminology at inappropriate places, amking it on the whole, confuising.
"Adenine, Guanine, and Cytosine are double rings called PURINES and the last component Thymine, is a single ring component called Pyrimidines in RNA. " Adenine and Guanine are Purines, Cytosine, Uracil and Thymine are pyrimidines (Pure silver (purines AG) and CUT a Pyramid (pyrimidines CUT) is the way it's taught, pretty simple to remember really)

This sentence doesn't make sense...at all. A codon is a triplet...it is true however that there is redundancy in the coding for amino acids.

I can't actually begin to explain how badly written that page is and if that is the caliber of the site, then I think I'm going to stay away from it. I mean someone with even a basic understanding of genetics (as taught in secondary/high school) would be able to see that it's useless. It's trying to use scientific terminology to fool the reader into thinking that they know what they're talking about. Its exactly like the concept of Intelligent design. Psuedoscience.
